Into The Mind of a Modern Terrorist

Well !!! before starting off to get into his mind, lets first see who he is? Definitely a male (Till now atleast), Bachelor, has Jihadi mentality and the most important one, he has a profile which is not much different from yours or mine. Well, he is a professional, has a salaried white collar job. But, one may ask why is that important? it definitely is coz thats what makes him to merge with us. And why is it important for us to know him? He is the one who puts my family and even yours to danger.

Now lets see his modus operandi. he hides among us and is always on the lookout for soft targets. First he selects places where you and me go to with our families on weekends or during festivals. Then he looks at the security infrastructure of these places. The one which has the least or no security comes up on his hit list and then he plans. Not a very elaborate one, simple ... get in merge with the crowd, place the device and get out. To me this behaviour is similar to that of a town rat and that is exactly what he is.

The device mostly is a remotely operated one for our 'Rat' to be safe for the detonation. It need not be of considerable size, he carries it in his backpack and may or may not be assembled by him.

With all these information why is it still difficult for us to trace him? What is it we can do to trace him? well the best possible answer i can give is to get into his mind and see how he thinks coz after all once upon a time he was one of us.

Why Couldn't Hyderabad Be Saved ???

The recent terrorist attacks at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat at Hyderabad , was a probably an avoidable situation. The security organisations are aware of the importance of the city and its neighbour Bangalore on the terrorist hit map. So, why can't necessary steps be taken to avoid such incidents?

Terrorist sleeper cells work on a very simple methodology. Each cell seems to have two to three people required to carry out such a task. The cell is controlled by external person (Lets call Him the Cell Keeper) either from Pakistan or Bangladesh. If a cell has to carry out any operation, it definitely has to increase the number of interactions with its 'Cell Keeper' placed outside the country. This implies increased number of calls and interaction over the net. This is the exact scenario which had happened in the case of Hyderabad blasts also.

The Cell Keeper definitely has to be placed outside the country as he handles multiple sleeper cells. He cannot take the risk of being caught as each individual may have multiple sleeper cells under him, indicating that his survival is important to plan and run the network in a particular region. Also the Cell Keeper has to be in constant touch with the Jihadi masterminds.

Breaking the communication link between the Cell Keeper and the sleeper cells should be an important milestone the security agencies should work on. To avoid such situations in future and monitoring and tracing all calls to Pakistan and Bangladesh should be their primary target.
